Talia Tissera received an Honours Bachelor of Science in Psychology, Neuroscience & Behaviour from McMaster University in 2021. Under the supervision of Dr. Katherine Holshausen, she completed an honours thesis on resilience to the effects of adverse childhood experiences in adults with borderline personality disorder (BPD). Talia conducts research across labs at SickKids and St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton, exploring topics such as emotion dysregulation in the perinatal context, trauma treatment development, and healthcare experiences of racialized gender-diverse youth. As Talia enters York’s Clinical Psychology graduate program in Fall of 2022, she seeks to employ qualitative and quantitative methodology to better understand BPD symptomatology in the context of dyadic relationships. She hopes to translate that understanding of relationships and BPD into streamlined treatments that reduce BPD symptom severity and increase relationship satisfaction. Ultimately, Talia aspires to continue working closely with marginalized communities to translate their lived experience into more equitable, scalable, and effective mental health care.
